This was the only problem I ever had with my Savage that stumped me for alittle while.Happened not long after i got it ,back in 97 just thought of it so I thought I'd post it.It first started as quirky idle problem .Then began to get hard to start ,then got hard to keep running.Also smoked like hell.gonna make this not so long if I can..... Finally I was pulling the choke in and out just to keep it running,Deciced to check out Petcock,drained fuel,did not have to remove tank or petcock,the piece you switch with pulls out after removeing stainless clip (the piece with the words res on ect)in any case visibly it looked fine.decided to eliminate vacuum diaphram.Plugged vacuum line at carb put gas back in started up .been running great ever since,cant remember what the piece looked like that I removed though.well maybe this will help someone someday.
